Adams Racing FTW!

You may not always hear it but Drag Racing really is a family sport. I have met some of the most dearest people to me through Drag Racing. These people become just like family over the years. We bitch about them, laugh with them, fight with them and at the end of the day still love them as family! From time to time JLR will write a column about another racer. Today is no different as this article is about great friend and competitor “Dunebuggy” Dale Adams and Adams racing’s awesome win!

On October 18, 2020 the SEVWA (SEVWA.com) held its 34th Annual “Fast Times at Farmington”. Although JLR Racing didn’t attend this race we kept “tabs” on our competitors and friends throughout the race via text messages, live feed (thanks to Kathy of the SEVWA) and phone calls.

All eyes were on Stephen Hawes and his $100,000.00 Pro Mod called The Beast this day and he did not disappoint. The car ran a blistering 5.29@143mph at this 1/8 mile facility! That is one fast ass car!

However, “Dunebuggy” Dale Adams and crew showed up to race and go rounds. This race was all about winning and the $$ because due to covid the VW Heritage Series Points season had been cancelled. Maryland or (301 Crew) as we like to say, represented this day in North Carolina as 3 of the cars in Pro Outlaw were from here including Dale Adams out of Annapolis, MD!

Kirk Adams (Dale’s Son) usually pilots the family Pro Mod VW but could not make the race due to family obligations, so Dale had good friend and long time VW Drag Racer Todd Howard (of Mega Machine Shop) drive the car.

On his first pass Todd netted the quickest pass for Adams racing thus far with a 6.12ET. This was enough for 3rd Qualifier! He then backed it up with a 6.16ET against Jonathan Abrams and his beautiful blue and white Karman Ghia.

In the final round Adams and Howard saw Stephen Hawes and The Beast. Now one would think, given how fast Stephen has gotten The Beast to be, that this would be a cake walk. However in the Drag Racing world we always say “you gotta get it down the track!”. Dale and Todd had been extremely consistent all day and as luck would have it Stephens car had an issue, got a little wiggle, and Todd pulled away having a wiggle himself at the top end and lifting for the win!!!!

BIG Congrats to Dale Adams, Todd Howard (Courtney Howard for the great pics and videos!), Kirk Adams and family for an amazing win and final to wrap up the 2020 season! Cheers to more winners circles in 2021 and I think we can all agree when I say “GO AWAY COVID!”
