August 20, 2016 – Mason Dixon Dragway – VW Heritage Series A/Gas Class

Having a fresh engine rebuild and new suspension on the rear we came into this race needing some seat time. The car had new springs and shocks on the rear with virtually no test time. The engine was fresh and although we knew for the most part what we had we still had not tested it. We decided to make a quick pass before qualifying and were glad we did. The car launched then lost power. We got it back to the pits to find the new exhaust slip joint had come loose. Our Crew Chief Matt Slifer did some fast McGyver repairs and we were back in business!

We then went up for first round Q1. The car launched decent but it was all over the place. We netted a 6.00 @ 124mph giving us #1 Qualifier. We decided to sit out Q2 and lost our top qualifier spot. In 1st round elims we had Austin Johnson. Johnson stepped up to A/Gas in the offseason and has been doing well. Unfortunately he broke in Q2 so we had a bye run. The car was still all over the place and more suspension adjustments were needed. 2nd rnd Elims had us in the semis already due to only 6 cars being in attendance. We launched the car and Jerry missed a quick shift to 3rd gear causing him to lose to the Pro Stock car of Ollie Frey. We will go into the next race 3rd in points with 2 races to go!
